Fishing around Johnson's Allagash lodge is unique for a number of reasons. While our home pond flows to Allagash lake, and down the river, some of the neighboring bodies of water are the headwaters of the Penobscot and St. John rivers. Of the twenty lakes and ponds that we fish within a ten mile radius of our lodge, our 150 acre front yard is the most productive, routinely producing sguaretails in the 12-16 class. This pond is one of 216 bodies of water in the state that has never been stocked. Along with still water fishing, we fish streams from ten to sixty minutes from our back door, that hold brookies, landlocked salmon, and one river that has great musky numbers that will come to a fly. Canoes are certainly a huge part of our fishing and besides the ones at "home", we maintain a number on remote hike or fly in ponds. For folks that would like to learn all about the art of fly fishing, our Fly Fishing School offers you a five day program all in the Maine north woods classroom. Most of day one, will be spent on our "lawn", teaching you the proper mechanics of casting, enabling you to progress through the stages of casting and ultimately reaching your casting goals. Phase two, will consist of fishing still water, casting to a rising fish and properly releasing a trout. The final phase will introduce you to safe wading, and stream fishing techniques. No more than four participants will be accepted per week, so that only two will work with a guide/ instructor. We often take advantage of evening insect hatches,so returning late is common pratice. All students will have their own cabin, and have meals in the lodge, while shore campfires, and nature study are always shared in the off hours. Please call us for details.
