Northern Maine, with it's many square miles of second growth mixed softwood and hardwood forest provides great cover for numbers of ruffed grouse or "partridge". Because this is logging country and loggers need to move timber, a maze of old graveled roads make for ideal habitat and shooting lanes. Unlike grouse in more southern climes, our birds are often spotted on the ground, which allows the hunter to anticipate a wing shot. Your dog is welcome, but those of you without a pooch, our yellow lab "Fauna" is always willing to flush and retrieve and is a hoot to hunt with.
